This is one of the most prestigious rankings in the world in terms of ESG indices, where the company managed to climb three positions compared to the previous year.
Multi X achieved a favorable result in the latest edition of the Coller Fairr Protein Producer Ranking, reaching seventh place worldwide, three positions higher than last year. The ranking analyzed the performance of 60 protein-producing companies worldwide to assess how they manage environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) risks. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Multi X has been included in the ranking.
The company obtained a global risk score of 71%, compared to 55% last year, improving its scores in areas such as animal welfare, water use, supplier engagement, and transparency in reporting results and relevant information. Notably, these results allowed the company to move from the Medium Risk category to Low Risk in ESG indices.
“We are in the right business, producing the right protein. Seven of the top ten companies in this ranking are linked to salmon farming, demonstrating that it is a highly efficient food source that continues to make steady progress in ESG indices,” said Cristián Swett, CEO of Multi X.
Meanwhile, Francisco Lobos, CHRO, added, “The results achieved by our company are proof of the enormous effort made by everyone at Multi X and those involved in our value chain. We achieved a 29% change rate, reflected in score improvements in critical areas such as animal welfare, water use, and supplier engagement.”
The Coller Fairr Protein Producer Index was created in 2018 to address the knowledge gap regarding sustainability risks in the food sector. It evaluates 60 of the world’s largest publicly traded meat, dairy, and aquaculture companies based on 10 sustainability factors, including alternative proteins, greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation and biodiversity, water use and scarcity, waste and pollution, antibiotics, labor conditions, animal welfare, food safety, and governance.
In this way, it provides financial institutions with the best data, analysis, and trends on the protein sector to incorporate into their investment decisions and engagement strategies.
Multi X was founded in Puerto Montt in 1987 and has been dedicated to salmon farming in southern Chile since its inception. With more than 6,000 direct and indirect employees, it operates in five regions of the country with sustainable and innovative processes throughout its value chain.
