After two years of implementation, the model has achieved highly significant milestones, including a 59% reduction in accident frequency.
Last Thursday, September 5, in Puerto Varas, Multi X held its second Annual Cross Check Safety Model Summit, an event at which the main achievements of the model were presented, along with the objectives set for its third year.
The event brought together 130 attendees in person and nearly 350 participants via streaming, including executives, employees, unions, and joint health and safety committees of the company. Authorities also attended, such as Senator Carlos Ignacio Kuschel, Congressman Alejandro Bernales, Navy Captain Julio Carvajal representing the Fifth Naval Zone, and Joaquín Álvaro, Chief Inspector of the Puerto Varas Municipal Labor Inspection, representing the Regional Director of the Labor Directorate.
As the opening activity, Francisco Lobos, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, delivered a summary of the model’s progress since its implementation, noting that:
“With Cross Check, we redirected our route in safety management by shifting responsibility for prevention from the OHS team to the captains of each facility, grounding it on strategic pillars such as leadership, risk analysis, and culture. In this way, we incorporated accountability into our model, conducted a comprehensive review of protocols and procedures, adopted new habits, recognized success stories, and applied a consequences framework when required.”
Later, Marcos Singer, MBA Director at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, spoke about the importance of workplace safety in building corporate legitimacy, and then moderated an engaging panel on the same topic featuring Martín Hepp, COO of Multi X, and Juan Luis Moreno, CEO of the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS).
During the same event, Chilean Navy Frigate Captain Fernando Saver delivered a presentation on the “cost of not preventing,” emphasizing the importance of risk management and systematic operational planning.
Likewise, Carlos Montecinos, Multi X Offshore Operations Manager, addressed the progress and challenges of the Diving X diving program, highlighting the recent certification awarded by the Chilean Safety Association after achieving 100% compliance in the audit conducted. “Diving X has completed 5,000 dives, equivalent to 180,000 minutes of diving, during which no accidents have been recorded and 100% operational continuity has been ensured,” explained Carlos Montecinos.
As a central milestone of the event, Outstanding Performance recognition was awarded to four Cross Check Captains: Leonel Godoy, Offshore Production Manager, 10th Region; Cristina Cubilla, Head of Cuchi Site in the Aysén Region; Javier Álvarez, Head of Logistics, Parcela Farming; and Sergio Ruiz, Head of Fresh and Frozen Plant Production.
To close the Annual Summit, two guest speakers challenged attendees from different perspectives. The first was neurocoach Willy Krause, who addressed safety from a neuroscience standpoint and the ability to sustain attention.
Additionally, Bárbara Hernández—an extreme open-water swimmer known as the “Ice Mermaid”—spoke about the importance of understanding risks, the role of the team in building trust, and how effective planning for success leaves no room for ego.
