Multi X unveils its renewed Sustainability Strategy

Multi X presented its renewed ESG Strategy under the concept “The ABC of Sustainability,” structuring its objectives around three essential dimensions: Animals, Biosphere, and Communities.

In this context, and in the face of global challenges such as climate change, population growth, and the urgent need to produce food in a sustainable way, farmed salmon is positioned as a solution to feed the world in a nutritious, efficient manner and with a low environmental impact. It is considered a superfood, with a carbon footprint lower than that of any other animal protein.

Francisco Lobos, the company’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, explained that “at Multi X, we understand that aquaculture is part of the solution to feeding the future, and that we have the challenge of demonstrating and communicating the sustainability of our sector through pillars and actions that are easy to understand. For this reason, we propose a strategy as simple as the ABC, with ambitious goals and clear metrics to monitor and report our progress.”

The executive emphasized that sustainability and innovation are core corporate values at Multi X and that, based on these foundations, “we work to build a responsible company that strives for excellence and engages with the world around it, strengthening its contribution to the economic and social development of the regions where it operates, while supporting the adoption of technologies and solutions that add value to the salmon production chain.”

Under the new ABC of Sustainability framework, each letter represents a strategic pillar and brings together specific initiatives and performance metrics:

The letter A stands for Animals and animal welfare, with the aim of ensuring optimal conditions for farmed fish. This pillar includes all health and production indicators associated with these objectives, with key actions such as reducing the use of antibiotics, maintaining zero lethal interactions with marine mammals surrounding operations, and improving fish survival rates.

The letter B, Biosphere, encompasses initiatives aimed at ensuring operations coexist harmoniously with the ecosystem. This pillar includes standards related to emissions, impact controls, raw materials, circularity, and environmental performance, among others. Key targets include maintaining zero fish escapes—a result sustained for more than a decade—reducing the company’s carbon footprint through energy efficiency projects across the entire value chain, and continuing the goal of Zero Waste to Landfill. In 2024, Multi X achieved 100% Zero Waste to Landfill at its processing plants and 96% across the full value chain.

The letter C, Communities, focuses on promoting collaboration with different segments of society to jointly build a sustainable future for those living in southern Chile. Under this pillar, the company aims, among other objectives, to further strengthen its open-door policy, which concluded 2024 with 160 visits to its facilities; to continue initiatives such as the Project Bank, which supported 23 projects in 12 localities in southern Chile last year; and to further develop micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises as suppliers to the industry.

“This new strategy allows us to communicate in a simple way with our stakeholders, share how we work, and regularly report on our objectives, progress, and goals related to our operational priorities,” Lobos concluded.
