In October, Multi X concluded the second edition of the Mycelium Project, an initiative designed to strengthen ties between the industries present in the region and educational communities. During 2025, more than 200 students and teachers visited the company’s facilities to gain firsthand insight into its operations, as well as the work and commitment behind salmon production.
Macarena Lago, founder of the Mycelium Project, explained that “we want young people to be aware of the opportunities available to them in terms of education, employment, and entrepreneurship. In this context, the salmon industry is highly relevant both nationally and locally, opening multiple pathways for students’ professional development.”
With this goal in mind, over several months students from Rosita Novaro School in Puerto Varas, Federico Ozanam School and Santo Tomás School in Puerto Montt, along with Nueva Braunau School, visited various company facilities. These included the Multisea freshwater facility, the Remote Feeding Center, processing plants, and corporate offices.
Based on these experiences, students developed projects addressing real challenges within salmon farming. These initiatives were presented to a jury made up of company executives from different areas of the value chain, including Freshwater Operations, Processing, Sustainability, and Innovation. The event was also attended by Multi X’s CEO, Cristián Swett, and SalmonChile’s Corporate Affairs Manager, José Tomás Monge.
Regarding the Mycelium Project process, Multi X’s Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Manager, Francisco Lobos, stated that “seeing the journey students have taken from their first visit to today—when they are presenting high-standard projects—truly fills us with pride and reinforces our conviction that we must continue along this path of collaboration.”
Meanwhile, Franco Albornoz, a junior-year student at Nueva Braunau School, added that “I always felt very supported. They explained each process in detail during the visits and accompanied us throughout our research projects. I am very grateful to Multi X and would gladly take part in this experience again.”
In total, between the pilot cycle of the program carried out in 2024 and this second stage in 2025, the Mycelium Project in partnership with Multi X has enabled more than 250 students to engage with the salmon industry and learn about its processes directly between 2024 and 2025.
